Test drive: D-Link DWL-922 Wireless G Network Starter Kit (NewsForge)

Glenn Mullikin hacks on a D-Link DWL-922 Wireless G Network Starter Kit. "D-Link doesn't advertise Linux support for the kit, but I decided to give it a whirl anyway to see how well it fared. The kit comes with D-Link's DI-524 Wireless G router, which has all the features you would expect a router to have, including plenty of security options, and the DWL-G122 USB 2.0 wireless adapter, which you can use at Wi-Fi hotspots or on your LAN."

The short story is: neither the router nor the USB wireless adapter works
properly with Linux; you should probably get something else.

... which is probably a good idea anyway. I've seen to much of the low cost DLink gear out there, and I've never had a brand cause so much trouble. I had a managed 24p switch hang when a client sent too large ethernet frames (also caused by a broken DLink consumer router by the way). Just go with Linksys or whatever the other low price brands are called instead, it's probably a good idea in more than one way.

I've had problems with D-Link as well; I RMA'd one device and received one which was DOA and RMA'd again. Then I got a package with a broken power adapter but since I had my original adapter I finally had a working solution.

On the other hand, I used one setup where a Linux to Linux file transfer totally saturated a Linksys NAT-router so that all other ports quit working...

I talked to the guy who had this linksys setup and it seems maybe the glitch was somewhere else than the linksys box (ADSL box or ISP, solution was never found).
