Question:

Has Larry McVoy always come across this bitter and angry? I was often wondering if things were as bad as I'd heard. If his sales are up 200%
what's he got to worry about, I find myself wondering.....?

The analogy re: XP Server vs SMB is very true by the way....

After all, I began with Linux just as Linus did. I wanted a cheap (or even free) Unix because:

a) I couldn't afford 1000 UK pounds for a Unix OS (even though I loved Unix from College).
b) The licences for Unix systems back in the mid 1990s didn't let you tinker with the systems once you'd bought them anyway!

So it's exactly true....

Following Larry's comments:

Why bother with Linux when there's Unix (may be even SCO Unix (smirk!))...

He picked a rotten analogy there!

Mike

Well, pretty much, yeah.
He picked a rotten analogy there!
He picked a bad business model, he makes egregious assumptions and then believes them as gospel, and he is not afraid to put out the occassional outright lie. I'm sure he has good qualities too, but they seldom come out on LWN.
