HOWTO do Linux kernel development

Greg Kroah-Hartman has gotten tired of answering the same questions about Linux kernel development. So he has put together a HOWTO document to get people started. The goals are ambitious: "This is the be-all, end-all document on this topic. It contains instructions on how to become a Linux kernel developer and how to learn to work with the Linux kernel development community." Now people just have to read it...

I'm constantly amazed at the productivity displayed by GKH. I'm not a
kernel developer (although I play one on TV), but a project like this is
obviously a labor or love -- he's producing a document with the intent
being to distribute knowledge in a manner that allows others to share his
own passion.

All I can say is, "Rock On!"

I fully second. Greg is amazingly productive and all the time surprises with something new. Impressive.

I think Greg Koah is a Mark III of the Alan Cox bot that was so heavily productive in the 1990's. The pinacle Mark II seems to have been Alexander Viro who seems to have been able to code for 48 hours straight on 3-4 different topics. (Other Mark II exist, but Viro is a good example.)

Actually, it can also be viewed as a labor-saving device, and the man who has time to come up with a device to save him later time is a wise man indeed. Enlightened laziness is all about a little more work now, and way less work later.
