Gotta like that PR spin--nothing like claiming you are *the* maker of Linux: "...Linspire, Inc., maker of the
desktop Linux operating system, announced today..." That just barely makes it near the realm of truth, but the exclusive article ("the") pushes it over the edge into dishonest hubris, IMO.

It's clarified later:
The company's flagship product, the Linspire operating system, is an affordable, easy-to-use Linux-based operating system for home, school, and business users.

This means nothing if they are going to use the same apes that pose as "helpful salespersons" try and advertise / sell the stuff... Sometimes you would expect them asking if you'd like fries with your purchase and all they care is to stick a label with their name to whatever you are carying in your hand, so they would get commision...

Maybe one in ten would be up to the task of knowing how to use Linux and present a computer runing Linux being a viable option.

Onestly, I visited (a lot) just one store - the one in Fairfax, VA...

Ah yes, Micro Center.

This store is most notable for carrying copies of 10 year old software and horrendously out of date hardware. I was in my local Micro Center this afternoon, and they had _ONE_ drive capable of DVD burning for sale.

Not to mention the fact that their average employee is underqualified to work for McDonalds.

Then again, we all want mainstream Linux, I guess this is part of that.

Funny, here in Atlanta the MicroCenter carries completely modern hardware and software, and in service is head and shoulders above CompUSA and its ilk. Obviously you're not going to get serious experts working the sales floor, but their staff is reasonably knowledgeable. They also do a decent job of selling and supporting Apple stuff, if you care about that.

I've been very happy going there, even though it's significantly farther away from me than the other places.
