Hmm, I"ve written several assemblers in my day, and I much prefer Python to Java or Perl, thankyouverymuch! :p ;)

Frankly, I like a language that's simple and makes sense, and is still flexible and powerful enough to do amazing things with. Python may have its "one True Way", but that way is powerful and flexible enough to handle just about anything I want it to do. And that, to me, is what distinguishes a good language from a bad one.

I have to admit, if I hadn't spent some time with Python, I probably would have agreed with you, but I did, so I don't! :)
