Red Hat's Bob Young quits

Red Hat has announced that Bob Young has resigned from the company's board of directors. Bob founded the company with Marc Ewing many years ago, and steered it through its IPO. With his departure, almost all of the original Red Hat crew has now moved on to other pursuits.

Red Hat + red tape = Bob's departure?

As Red Hat has "grown up" to offer an enterprise distro with all of the attendant support, and gained shareholders desperately seeking profit, it wouldn't surprise me if Boby left because the little company he co-founded was now foundered in red tape like the following quote from the press release:
Any statements in this press release about future expectations, plans and prospects for the Company, including statements containing the words "believes," "anticipates," "plans," "expects," "will," and similar expressions, constitute forward-looking statements within the meaning of The Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995.
The whole paragraph of legal mumbo-jumbo is about the same size as the actual news... that had to be quite the culture change for Bob.

Recalls a brilliant .sig I saw on, I think, the LKML:
"The bureaucracy is growing to support the needs of a growing bureaucracy".

A really interesting and likeable guy

I spent a while talking to Bob (in a cave in the Netherlands! - it was the conference social event for SANE 98). He was a fascinating and interesting guy to talk to, and the keynote he gave was good stuff too.

I wish him all the best with the things he is now turning his hand to.

Lulu looks very promising, and may be another crack in traditional publishing. Bob Young is clearly a visionary, and I wish him all the best with future efforts.
