Drivers are nice frosting on the cake, but what we really need is specs of the hardware and technical support at a hardware level (i.e. they can handle the complaint, "I wrote 0x10 to the command register, but I never got an interrupt," as opposed to, "I clicked on 'power saving mode' and I got an hourglass." That's a lot more flexible than a driver.
