	Hello,

Mandriva today unveils the new version of its operating system,
merging pioneer technologies from Conectiva and Lycoris, as well as
spanning for the first time a one-year release cycle.

Mandriva 2006 is the only Linux distribution to provide the official
support for Intel® Centrino mobile technology and to offer a
complete integration of Skype, the popular free voice calling
over Internet software. Other key features include desktop search,
interactive firewall and auto-install server functionality.

All information is available in the press release available at:

Skype? Isn't that a bit of a step backwards? The Skype people are resolutely open-source and seem dead set against integration with any documented standards. I'm waiting for Google talk to get SIP support (which Google say is in the pipeline), so I can use it with an open-source Linux client, not that rather dodgy closed-source offering from Skype...

I'm just so impatient to `rm -R /opt/skype`...

Yeah, good to know that I don't have to consider using Mandriva. Was Mandriva earlier an open-source distribution (not counting possible firmware blobs and so)? Funny to see that now SUSE has OSS version while Mandriva goes into using proprietary software. Earlier SUSE always had Sun Java, acroread, flash etc. bundled.

Meanwhile, see http://www.openwengo.com/ to have Skype-like behavior, but with standards-compliancy and GPL'd code.
