Rococo Software Releases Bluetooth Developer Kit for Linux Over BlueZ
Bluetooth Application Development Environment Available Free for Linux
Developers
Dublin, Ireland ¾¶ November 11, 2002 ¾¶ Rococo Software announces the release
of Impronto Developer Kit for Linux, a Bluetooth development environment
that makes building Bluetooth applications in Linux faster and easier.
Impronto Developer Kit for Linux is available free of charge for
non-commercial use from Rococo¾²s web site.
¾³After launching Impronto Developer Kit for PalmOS we received a lot of
interest from the Linux community looking for similar support on the Linux
platform,¾´ said Rococo Chief Technical Officer, Karl McCabe. ¾³While the
basics of the two kits are similar, the Linux edition is particularly useful
for developers connecting back-end application servers to wireless Java
devices via Bluetooth.¾´
Impronto DK for Linux:
a.. Allows developers to build Java Bluetooth applications for Linux
b.. Implements standard Java APIs for Bluetooth Wireless Technology
(JABWT)
c.. Runs applications in a standard Java environment on x86 Linux devices
with the BlueZ stack
d.. Provides easy-to-use Java abstractions for Bluetooth wireless
communication
e.. Is based on J2ME Connected Device Configuration (CDC)
f.. Addresses primary Bluetooth profiles
According to Sean O¾²Sullivan, Rococo Software CEO, ¾³Bluetooth technology is
poised for mass-adoption. With development environments like Impronto DK for
Linux now available, more developers are encouraged to work towards building
compelling Bluetooth applications, which will help to boost the successful
adoption of Bluetooth technology.¾´
Growth in the wireless Linux development arena is mounting and has not gone
un-noticed by analysts. According to a recent Linux Developers¾² Survey run
by Evans Data, about 20 percent of responding Linux developers are
developing wireless applications using Linux, representing a 50 percent
increase in the last six months.
Impronto DK for Linux is a binary release available from
