Advances in laptop support, no mp3 software

I'm typing this from my laptop running SuSE 10 beta4. It runs well for day to day usage. Installing went pretty good except for an obscure display problem with the centrino chipset. With some more weeks of improvements, this could turn out pretty ok, but certainly not revolutionary.

A minor problem is the absence of certain firmware from the distribition. This is however available on a Novell server. A big problem is the absence of mp3 support.

Users of SUSE Linux should always have a look at
http://packman.links2linux.de/
They build all the nice tools you want to have on SUSE, and you can even
use it as a YAST source.

have fun,

AFAIK, apt will be included, so you just add packman as an apt-source like
this in your "/etc/apt/sources.list":

rpm http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt packman-i686

Then a simple " apt install MPlayer" will bring nearly all video and audio
formats to SuSE. You can fetch the w32codec package, and this will also
work with the 64 Bit Version - _very_ convenient :-)
