LINUX AND OPEN SOURCE: IS IT THE RIGHT EMBEDDED SOLUTION?
In this guest editorial, veteran embedded industry analyst Paul
Zorfass considers the pros and cons of using Linux in embedded
applications from the perspective of non-technical, pragmatic
considerations such as development models and business practices.
Zorfass postulates that although embedded developers want and can
greatly benefit from open source, royalty-free software and the
many technical features of Linux, what is most important is to
provide rich, robust software solutions oriented toward specific
industries and market segments, and with tools tailored to meet the
needs of the developers of those applications.
