Why should they? In two years at their growth rate Debian can join their consortium.

Debian is still incredibly strong, and Ubuntu cannot survive (let alone thrive) without a healthy, strong, Debian at its base. Say what you will about it, but it does an excellent job of providing a base distribution, matched by absolutely no other.
