I was very impressed with the Wyse terminals, and the thin clients HP was showing off. Unfortunately these terminals lack decent video capabilities. Neither manufacturer can do 1600x1200 with 32-bit color, and neither has a DVI port. Given that a thin client might be expected to use an lcd monitor, this seems strange. I have 10-year-old Matrox video cards that can put out 2048x1532 at 32-bit color, and I have 5-year-old models that can do 1600x1200/32 on the DVI port. Also neither manufacturer is offering a gigabit ethernet port. Considering that a thin client is basically an ethernet-to-video bridge, I'd expect to see a bit more in the way of ethernet and video, especially at these prices. In the $400+ plus price range, these guys are in danger of being outclassed by the likes of a Mac mini.
Oh, power-over-ethernet would be dandy, as well.

Well, I don't think PoE is all *that* likely... but *my* problem with them is that, once again, Wyse and I can't agree on what the market is:
Not only are they not just in danger of losing sales to PC's (I can't really make the value proposition sell to my market at all, having very few clients with 1000+ seats), *they require you to be Microsoft certified just to get authorization to sell the damn things.
Being a Unix house, we don't really spend a lot of money on that issue, and that's unlikely to change.
Naw, Wyse, when you decide to stop having to get all your money out in front, and figure out what the market *really* is, (oh, and cut the price in half), call me back.
Shame, too... they're mostly finally figuring out the design parameters.
