make use of --enable-ctrls. Thanks again to Roberto Leandrini.

  Hi folks,
I think it's time to consider this to be mostly frozen and concentrate on
beta testing in preparation for the Slackware 10.2 release, so there won't
be too many more upgrades and additions. Things are going to be pretty
busy for me over the next couple of weeks besides working on getting 10.2
finalized, but let me know about any issues that need fixing before the
release and I'll get to them just as soon as I can. Have fun!
kde/kdepim-3.4.2-i486-2.tgz: Patched a bug in KMail.
  n/proftpd-1.2.10-i486-3.tgz: Recompiled with --enable-ctrls and
    --enable-ipv6. Suggested by Roberto Leandrini.
  xap/xine-lib-1.0.2-i686-1.tgz: Upgraded to xine-lib-1.0.2.
  xap/xine-ui-0.99.4-i686-1.tgz: Upgraded to xine-ui-0.99.4.
  extra/blackbox-0.70.0/blackbox-0.70.0-i486-1.tgz: Added
blackbox-0.70.0. This isn't in slackware/xap because there were some
things about it that struck me as not quite right, like the removal of
i18n support, and that the themes didn't seem to work any more (or at
least weren't included). If it's something I'm doing wrong, let me know,
otherwise this can stay here for now...
  extra/slackpkg/slackpkg-1.5.0-noarch-3.tgz: Upgraded to
    slackpkg-1.5.0-noarch-3 (fixed a mirror URL).

Linux kernel 2.4.31

I am a bit confused to see that Slackware only has Linux 2.6 in testing, not in the stable branch. I have been using Slackware with Linux 2.6 since 2.6.3 without problems... It will be for 11.0 then! The good thing is that it seems to mean that Patrick is better healthwise. Thanks Pat, keep it up!

Pat's very conservative that way... but I'm glad that he is, even though I too have been using 2.6 as standard for a long time. It has been mentioned before (in the changelog) that 11.0 will have a lot of big changes, which I imagine will at least include 2.6 being standard. The timing of that, however, is not known presently... for all we know, there could be a Slack 10.3, 10.4 ... etc. before 11.0 makes its appearance.

Is GNOME still around? Has it been removed for this release?

It has been removed. There are a couple different options if you want a good Gnome desktop on Slackware now: Freerock Gnome, which is the one that Pat recommends (because it fits nicely into an existing Slackware system without making intrusive changes), and Dropline Gnome, which is also a nice system but makes many deep changes (including adding PAM, which is one of the main reasons Pat favors Freerock.)

Note also that Pat has upgraded the glibc packages to include NPTL support--this should make things nicer for people running lots of threads, etc.

Don't forget GRWA.

/me chuckles.

I of course meant GWARE. GRWA is the Georgia Rural Water Association, a client of mine.
Fingers sometimes develop their own memory though. :^)

At least you weren't recommending GWAR
