The problem is that RDMA operations do not "complete" in this manner. An RDMA user can reasonably set up a buffer, pass a descriptor to a remote system, and expect data to show up in the buffer sometime next week.

Only a week ? Some of our HPC users will want to do this over the course of several months (>=3). :-)

Myrinet's GM drivers use RDMA for some operations, there is some information on that in this FAQ answer.
