That is.. quite embarassing for Microsoft. They have tried hard to
strongarm themself into creaming the profits of mobile phones business
the same way they do on PC market. Unsuprisingly neither users, operators
nor handset manufacturers want them.

There is some freedom barriers in the current generation of Linux phones,
altough GPL is generally well followed[0] (With the typical Legal
department delays...). the Installing native software is not supported
out of box. At least the Motorola ones require quite a bit of hacking[1],
and you can forget warranties if you do so.. I assume the FOMA phones are
even harder to hack.
