Windows Mobile Smartphone shipments also grew, rising 50 percent from a 2.9 share in 1Q-04 to 4.5 percent in 1Q-05, Gartner says."

That is.. quite embarassing for Microsoft. They have tried hard to
strongarm themself into creaming the profits of mobile phones business
the same way they do on PC market. Unsuprisingly neither users, operators
nor handset manufacturers want them.

There is some freedom barriers in the current generation of Linux phones,
altough GPL is generally well followed[0] (With the typical Legal
department delays...). the Installing native software is not supported
out of box. At least the Motorola ones require quite a bit of hacking[1],
and you can forget warranties if you do so.. I assume the FOMA phones are
even harder to hack.

There's more on the horizon, too.
Several manufacturers will be making releases of new products yet this year that will only be Linux and I've read accounts that some may (or are in the process of) drop Symbian for Linux.

I just wish you could get decent Linux based Mobile phones here in the UK .

I have been trying but to no avail as yet so i have had to have an Nokia 3260i for now as the old Motorola v300 is about as much use as a Chocolate teapot in a Transport Cafe .

Pete .
