that have unintentionally stopped some third-party extensions from functioning correctly

Like Enigmail, for example.
I downloaded the TB 1.0.6 test version yesterday, and enigmail works again with this version.

Why will Seamonkey be updated to 1.7.10? They didn't even bother putting out a 1.7.9 release to fix the security issues that were present in 1.7.8 as well as Firefox 1.0.4.

Which, of course, really speaks volumes about their attitude in itself - but the point is, why call it 1.7.10 when there's no 1.7.9?

Well, my understanding is that 1.7.9 has the same problems. They learned about their mishap before they released it and to avoid any confusion they are bumping up all the version numbers.
On the enigmail mailing list, they were quoted as this:
Hey guys, we royally screwed up on Thunderbird 1.0.5 and we are truly truly sorry about it. We detected the Enigmail breakage, quickly rebuilt with the change backed out, and then in the confusion shipped the original broken version. (We intended to ship the 2005-07-12 afternoon builds, but released the 2005-7-11 bits instead).
I have actually read that there are different FF/TB 1.0.5 versions out. Suse apparently used the "correct" version for their package system.

Both FF and TB 1.0.6 are now out.
