Summer of Code Results (MozillaZine)
MozillaZine reports on
the list of Mozilla-related projects chosen to be part of Google's Summer Of
Code. "Selected
projects include an event logger for Firefox, a SIP phone client for
Thunderbird, a Firefox extension installer, a XUL front end for Bugzilla, a
graphical theme builder for Mozilla, a BitTorrent client built with
XUL/XPCOM and localizations for Latvian, Thai, Vietnamese and
Hindi."

I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to use Mozilla tools in Hindi but have been unable to do so! Okay, just kidding. Seriously, I have a lot of respect for Google in stepping up to organize this thing, Chris DiBona in particular.

I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to use a BitTorrent client built with XUL/XPCOM but have been unable to do so!At least I always had alternative solutions that didn't involve using proprietary software or learning another language.

I thought the Mozilla project had seen the wisdom of separate tools for separate tasks (i.e., the Firefox/Thunderbird split). Surely a SIP phone client is a nice standalone application.That's not to say that the various standalone applications can't be designed to work together nicely.
