Does anyone have any links to explain how this compares to GFS?

I guess it's GFS repackaged.

The hints are
- /etc/.../cluster.conf
- hearthbeat monitor
- dlm lock manager

OCFS2 is not GFS.

You're right, it seems like it's not GFS, but an alternative.

These are standard tools and config files that all cluster software should be using. They do not indicate that OCFS2 has anything to do with GFS, only that it is wisely using Linux's existing cluster infrastructure.
