Actually the directive is supposed to be implemented in _every_ EU
country this year. In Finland there have been lots of discussion about it
during the summer, and protests by EFFI (the local version of EFF)
and others have had some effect: Unlike the original, the latest version
submitted to the parliament no longer criminalises region-modding DVD
players, and it also permits circumventing copying restrictions for private
copying, provided you can figure out how to do it on your own!
Distributing technical means intended for circumventing the restrictions
is forbidden! There are also still many other objectionable provisions.
For more info for Finns, see the EFFI homepage at http://www.effi.org/
