Hardware problems & that logo

Parent article: First Look at Mandriva Linux 2005 (x86 and x86_64)

Mandriva still seem to have retained the ongoing kernel problem with HDTV cards. If anything, the problem seems to be worse with 10.2

Judging by the number of posts, it is a common problem. 2005 LE freezes during boot and so far I have found it easiest to remove the HDTV card. Reading varios posts elswhere, it seems the only solution is to boot using a live CD, & re-compile the kernel. Not exactly newbie friendly.

I also find it can't automatically mount newer USB keys. It sees it in the USB tree, but doesn't seem to recognise it as a removable drive. Yet, it has no trouble with my old 64M USB key from the same manufacturer (Apacer)

And the logo they use on boot screen, a cartoonish tux with stars for eyes. Is Mandriva aiming for the kiddie market with such a childish logo. Surely they are degrading their brand image with it. What IT manager would allow it to display during boot on a business desktop...
