I did, in fact, Google for Mr Pfeifle's name before writing my above comment. While his background explains why he marginalizes the GNOME project and its substantial user base, who Mr Pfeifle is or his past contributions to open-source projects have no bearing on my criticism that making demands of the Linux community in support of proprietary software will get him nowhere. My point would still be valid had the piece been written by Richard Stallman or Linus Torvalds, although neither of them would ever predict that the success of Linux hinges on the support of commercial software vendors.
