A LINUX-BASED WIRELESS DATA COLLECTION TERMINAL
Data scanned or keyed into the device by the user is transferred in
real-time over an IEEE 802.11b WLAN network to a database located on
a back-end server. The device contains an embedded computer based on
an Intel SA-1110 processor with 16MB RAM and 4MB Flash, and runs the
2.4.17 ARM Linux kernel.

INTRODUCTION TO SHARP'S ZAURUS SL-A300 PERSONAL MOBILE TOOL
Sharp's Linux-based Zaurus SL-A300 Personal Mobile Tool, currently
exclusive to the Japanese market, is claimed to be the world's
smallest and lightest PDA among QVGA color LCD-equipped handhelds
(as of June 2002). The device is based on a 200 MHz Intel PXA210
XScale processor equipped with 64 MB SDRAM memory, and offers USB,
IrDA, and audio I/O, plus an SD card expansion slot.

BINARY-ONLY MODULE GPL ISSUES -- REDUX
Kevin Dankwardt provides some news based on a recent discussion on
the Linux Kernel Mailing List concerning Linux Security Module
support with respect to non-GPL loadable kernel modules. The
discussion has Linus Torvalds and others once again voicing their
opinions on the subject of non-GPL software.

COMPACT INDUSTRIAL TERMINAL RUNS EMBEDDED LINUX
SSV Embedded Systems announced a small Linux-based terminal, the
TRM/916, based on their tiny DIL/NetPC single-board computer family.
SSV's TRM series terminals are designed for use in harsh
environments such as in machines, vehicles, or for wall/table
mounting in industrial environments,do not include any mechanical
moving parts, and have typical power consumption in the neighborhood
of 3-5 W.
