Crunch Time, in 3D! (2.5 final merge candidate list, v 1.4)
Everyone who cares should takes 2.5.44 kernel now, test those patches and report to the mailing list, as I did with the kexec patch.
Even if you cannot read and analyze the code, your "it works" will show that somebody cares and that it works at least in the default configuration without being stressed.
A word of warning. "make menuconfig" has problems with scrolling back on Red Hat 8.0 (presumably because of ncurses). "make xconfig" breaks, but there is a trivial patch in LKML, and Alan included it. Finally, 2.5.44 hangs if it tries to mount reiserfs that wasn't unmounted cleanly. Apart from that, everything is fine.
Crash dump is also extremely important. Linux won't be used in anything serious (like weapons, aviation and space) unless there is a way to analyze every single crash. I'll test it tonight. Will you?
