Maybe it could end up being a good alternative?

Sadly, they lack developers as well.

KOffice has ten applications (with an eleventh, KPlato coming along nicely) and maybe twenty volunteer developers, and two sponsored volunteers. We'd be overjoyed with OpenOffice's insufficiency of developers...
