One application you missed was AlbumShaper. It's actually rather good, and does the single job of creating a photo album (complete with slideshow/comments) very well. The result is viewable in any web browser.
Personally, I use gthumb to quickly rotate/rename images off the camera, then use AlbumShaper to generate an album. Incidentally, you also mised out Gwenview.

These are things Album Shaper tries to do as best as it possibly can. You do know AS supports batch rotation and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+R/L).-Will Stokes, Album Shaper developer
