========================================
The Mod_spambot project has today released a new version of its software.
Mod_spambot is a plugin to Apache, the world's most popular server software
for
the World Wide Web, that stops malicious software, known as spambots, from
downloading a website to harvest email addresses for spamming or other
unwanted use.
The primary new features in release 0.44 are:
* Improved ways to identify malicious sites by co-operation with Apache's
mod_usertrack
* Improved per site configurability for servers that host more than one web
site
* Optional per-site throttling which helps to prevent Denial of Service attacks by
spambots,
and helps to reduce the load such software puts on servers
* Ability to configure which file types are considered targets for spambots (e.g. webpages,
but
not pictures)
