Atlanta, GA - February 16, 2005 - Tulips, Daisies, and PostgreSQL
Bootcamp Popping Up April 2005
Big Nerd Ranch announces the next date for the popular PostgreSQL
Bootcamp - April 18-22, 2005. Developers and database administrators
who have been looking to expand their skills into this rapidly growing
arena have another opportunity to get on board. PostgreSQL, a highly
adaptable and scalable database solution is proving to be one of the
most sought-after applications for database management. Flexible,
robust and highly stable, PostgreSQL provides a low-cost and portable
alternative to Oracle and SQL Server. Administrators, developers and
project managers alike praise its ability to meet the needs of a wide
range of industries; from accounting to medical records to e-business
and customer relationship management.
The five-day bootcamp charts an intensive course through the most
sophisticated open-source database available, navigating SQL
constructs, subselects, transactions, triggers and user-defined types
and functions.
Topics include:
building and installing PostgreSQL
configuring starting and stopping the server
creating a cluster with initdb, databases and schemas
users, access control, security and OpenSSL
queries, transactions, objects, optimization, data types and table
constraints
monitoring and backups
The course has been widely praised for its exhaustive overview of the
ins and outs of PostgreSQL programming. Students leaving the class not
only carry away a hard copy and CD of documentation and lessons, but a
wealth of information that helps students leap dramatically over the
standard learning curve. Doug Hall, in his review in Linux Journal,
praised the course for guiding students step-by-step through the
lessons, putting information into praxis with a tightly integrated
combination of lecture and hands-on practice problems to review the
lesson.
Bootcamp instructor, Chris Campbell, brings a wealth of experience and
curriculum development to the course, providing an array of materials
to help the student learn, from two course manuals, slides, and photos.
"We believe in structuring the class to be a building-block approach to
learning, where each lesson builds on what was learned in the previous
lesson. You're building complex and sophisticated relational databases
by the end of the week," said Campbell.

and Mac OS X programmers in a retreat setting outside Atlanta, GA.
Class price of $3500 includes lodging, all meals, original instruction
materials, 24-hour lab access, and transportation to and from the
Atlanta airport. Students are encouraged to bring independent projects
to class, allowing for input from classmates and individual instructor
attention. For more information, call 678-595-6773 or visit
