CUPS v1.1.16 is Released!

You know, perhaps I'm a moron, but I've managed to get myself unretrievably confused by the number of pieces in the printing space these days... CUPS, Foomatic, print-o-matic, LPRng...

Does someone have a pointer to a good roadmap of which pieces do which job, and which ones work together? I looked at linuxprinting.org, and I'm *still* lost. :-)

Specifically, I'm interested for my laptop, a Portege 3010 that runs RH7.3, and has USB and IR onboard. I'd like to get a USB to serial adapter cable and use it to run my Kodak Diconix 150 portable printer.

Perhaps I can already do that with what I've got loaded with 7.3, but I can't quite tell...
