Coming to terms with copyright (News.com)

Here's an article from News.com examining the status of copyright laws in the United States. "In their legal briefs, Lessig and the other law professors correctly stress the importance of paying attention to both of these two vital parts of the U.S. Constitution: The copyright clause, which gives Congress the power to create copyright laws for a limited time, and the First Amendment, which prohibits Congress from curtailing speech or expression."

Coming to terms with copyright (News.com)

Actually, it's the equivalent of an editorial or op-ed piece from News.com. When linking to, say, a George Will piece, I wouldn't normally call it "an article from the Washington Post".

This could be an issue because in the article Declan McCullagh defies the DMCA by linking to DeCSS: is news.com doing it, or is he doing it?

Actually, it's not quite a link to DeCSS

He has a link whose anchor text is ``DeCSS'', but it links to Prof. Touretzky's deposition (affidavit?) in the studios v. 2600 Magazine case.

Of course, the deposition links to the Good Doctor's Gallery of CSS Descramblers, which links to the code directly.

Thus, News.com just avoids the judge's ban, which censored DeCSS, links to DeCSS, and, (IIRC), links to links to DeCSS, but no further. :-/

(Why does this remind me of proof by induction?)

I am almost certain that this is not what the link pointed to before. In fact, there was a thread on slashdot about whether News.com was intentionally challenging the DMCA, or if it was just Declan.

Can anyone else verify that, or whether, the link has been quietly changed?
