This is a wonderful thread, and I must thank all the people who have offered suggestions for getting "the last drop of juice" out of a Linux kernel! When I do my next OS upgrade, I will make use of these ideas.
It's particularly fun to be involved in such a discussion, because I'm really intrigued with the Demoscene, and the desire of sceeners to get that last bit of power.....
