That approach stands in contrast to the one taken by Bill Gates' team at Microsoft, where Windows releases aren't only planned, but publicly disclosed, for the next three years.
And, every once in a while, those release dates and promised new features are delivered upon. No-one knows where Linux will be like in 3 years. No-one knows what Windows will be like in 3 years. The only difference, is that commercial vendors are obliged to pretend that they do.
