Week's Survey; Security-related Software Updates; Headlines from
MandrakeForum.

Mandrake in the News
----------------------------------------
WilWheaton.net -- Penguin Time (a.k.a. Wheaton does Mandrake).
You may know Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher from "Star Trek: The Next
Generation" TV series, but he's also a recent Linux convert and
Mandrake enthusiast. Wil describes his personal switch to Linux in a
very interesting and extremely well written article titled "Penguin
Time":

"When I switched, I did it 100%, and I haven't looked back since. I am
really glad that I did it this way, because I've learned something new
each day, and grown more secure in my abilities to administer my
system. I'd suggest that, unless you're a hardcore gamer, you do the
same."

Slashdot.org -- Tiny Boxen.
Slashdot discusses the "OpenBrick" systems which are currently
available through MandrakeStore.com:
"This great little Linux box can be used as a firewall, micro-server,
PABX, thin client, multimedia, almost anything imaginable. It contains
a fanless 300 Mhz x86 compatible Geode processor and 128 MB SDRAM.
Software can be installed on a Compact Flash or on an optional Hard
Disk." Sounds like a nice solution for many applications."

Slashdot.org -- Enigmail Standard In Mandrake 9.0.
Slashdot discusses 'enigmail', a new feature in Mandrake Linux 9.0:
"The Mozilla 1.1 RPMs in Mandrake 9.0 contain the enigmail plugin. It
seamlessly encrypts, signs, decrypts and authenticate email with GPG or
PGP in the Mozilla Mail client. This is the first major distributor I
know of to support enigmail. With this and Evolution and Kmail both
supporting GPG and PGP are we at the dawn of that golden age when
encrypted email will be commonplace?"

MandrakeClub
----------------------------------------
Denis reports that he has now added all of the commercial applications
for 9.0 to the MandrakeClub Downloads area (except for a few which
aren't in RPM format); plus, all of the applications should be
accessible with urpmi.

Nice mirror list for Club members.
MandrakeClub is testing a new "Mirror finder" which is a more efficient
way of locating only the mirrors that you are interested in. Check out
the following article for all the details, then post your comments with
any feedback:

Business Case of the Week
----------------------------------------
Internet/E-commerce: Araxe uses Mandrake as a development server.
Araxe is a French company with 15 employees whose business is web
designing and Internet/Intranet portals. They use Mandrake Linux 8.1
for their development server due to "its recognized qualities and for
its French interface."
