I haven't yet subscribed as I don't feel right calling myself a "starving hacker", but on the other hand the yearly subscription fee for "professional hacker" equates to a weeks worth of food for myself and my family. Somewhere in between I could probably justify to my wife, considering how useful LWN is to me. P.S. In the demographic information collection form when creating an account there is no way to specify "I develop both free and proprietory software", which I believe is quite a common situation.
