Please use version 2.8.1.1 of gnome-applets since that fixes a crash in the preferences dialog in the weather applet. It also fixes some other minor bugs. http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-applets/2.8/ has the source. This and other updates will be included in next month's 2.8.2 release.
