For Immediate Release

LinuxIT announces solutions for Government and Public Sector.

LinuxIT has today announced the availability of Linux and Open Source
solutions tailored to meet the Office of Government Commerce (OGC)
guidelines in the U.K.

The recent guidelines published by the OGC gives justification for the
adoption of Open Source Software in the public Sector. Guidelines and
advice are always easier to give than implement but where can
organizations and public bodies find companies to help and who can
advise and help them along the ‘Open Road’?

LinuxIT is the leading Independent provider of Open Source solutions
whose staff have been implementing mission critical applications in the
private sector since 1998. These solutions have been reviewed to meet
the requirements of the public sector, where the key criteria for
purchase are value for money and open standards.

Peter Dawes, Sales Director commented “ There are many companies that
can provide a software package or Linux operating system but few that
actually know how to integrate these into a viable solution that
services the public or private sector. This is where LinuxIT’s key
expertise has been used to create the OSS Solutions. Our independence
but close alliances with the software publishers help us meet our aim to

help our customers make sense of the Open Source world and implement
solutions that work.”
OSS-Solutions from LinuxIT have all been designed to save costs across
the entire lifecycle, from implementation through cost of maintenance.
They can be implemented in part to service the needs of a particular
function or department as well as a complete infrastructure review.
The component OSS-Solutions are designed for the following business
processes;
Consolidation – servers often proliferate for back office processes with

each new application mandating new machines. The LinuxIT consolidation
program is designed to service the diverse requirements of
file/print/email/database from a reduced number of servers. By taking
advantage of the machine efficiency of Linux, reduced licensing costs
and overhead of support and maintenance The LinuxIT consolidation
program can significantly cut the running costs of the systems.
Migration – Many applications running on Unix and Microsoft Operating
Systems can be replaced by a LinuxIT system. The increased efficiency
means less hardware costs, reduced software licensing and a decrease in
the maintenance and support costs.
Desktops – Replacement of desktop software with viable alternatives
that provide the functionality of a familiar interface and office
packages. The LinuxIT Desktop solution allows users to focus on working

rather than the operations of the machine.
Security - Networks are often the subject of inappropriate use both
from the internet as well as from internal staff. The LinuxIT Security
Solution provides full time monitoring of your networks, reporting on
vulnerabilities and abuses across all operating systems and all
platforms.
