Transcode in Debian

Transcode uses some codecs that are either non-free or patent-incumbered, and can therefore not be included in an official Debian release. There are, however, unofficial packages by Christian Marillat available (at ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ and below).

And they worked for me when I had the same situation as the author of the article (i.e. creating SVCDs from AVIs and the script bundled with MPlayer didn't work).
