OOo Off the Wall: Macros and Add-ons (Linux Journal)

The Linux Journal looks at OpenOffice.org add-ons. "In the current version, OpenOffice.org's Export to PDF tool is disappointing. Although it usually produces an acceptable PDF under Linux--it is more problematic under Windows--it sometimes chokes on documents with elaborately formated tables or spontaneously changes fonts. Moreover, even when it works, it cannot generate bookmarks or live links. These features are said to be coming in version 2.0. Meanwhile, Martin Brown's ExtendedPDF not only provides the missing functionality, but handles files that defeat the Export to PDF tool."

What I do really need is :
- better support for printing transparent objects in a page. Instead of converting the whole page to a giant bitmap that neither my disk nor the printer spooler can properly handle I would prefer to see only the part of the page where there is transparency involved converted to bitmap.
- a consistent look/feel and functionality across tools. In fact I think it could be possible to have a single tool in which one could work with spreadsheets, presentation, drawings and texts without having to worry in the first place about the tool to use if one want text and tables in columns with dynamic graphs, automatic summary on first page and with landscape display.
Also :
- in relationship with previous need I would like a tool that is not just compatible with MS Office but brings both simplicity and rich functionnality to the average user. Being compatible with MS Office shall not be a reason to cripple the formatting of things just because MS does.
- about the PDF, I need to be able to open them in OOo and maybe even edit them after the generation step.
- I would like to see visio like functionnalities in drawing tool, and also better editing of pictures (like PNG) as it was possible in the 1.0 versions.
- I would love if OOo et Mozilla could work together so that we have bridge functionnality (like opening a OOo document for reading in Mozilla) and also have a file manager with remote abilities (via WebDav/FTP) that would be on Mozilla side but usable through OOo

Other than that I like the tool, I just want it even better.

OpenOffice has a plugin for that in the 2.0 stream.
