The Campaign for Digital Rights plans protests of a consultation paper
released by the UK Patent Office. The paper details plans to implement the
European copyright directive. CDR believes that this legislation is flawed
and will have disastrous effects on British research, innovation, music
recording studios and software development.
Here's another
'big commercial Linux deployment' press release from IBM. This time
around, it's Regal Entertainment Group, a large movie theater chain, which
is making the leap: it is using some 2400 Linux-based point of sale
systems, with the final number expected to grow to around 3500.
"Regal is also testing a new, in-theater, Linux-based kiosk that will
enable movie patrons to purchase tickets or retrieve tickets purchased from
an online service." The POS systems are running Red Hat Linux.
