The thing that's interesting is that, if Linux Australia keeps pushing on this, we could have a good way of embarrassing the MPAA when they do interviews. "So you claim to be an organization for protecting copyright, but I can't find any record of you actually protecting copyright. In fact, the only time you've gone to trial, you were found guilty of violating copyright yourself. How do you reconcile your position with your criminal record?"

Sending nasty letters is about at the top of the list of the rights exclusive to the owner of a copyright. Imagine how much trouble you'd get in if you started calling up theaters insisting that they not show movies because they're illegal copies.
