Linux blunder Down Under could land MPAA in court (ZDNet)
ZDNet Australia covers
an MPAA screwup. "Linux Australia president Pia Smith told
Builder AU the MPAA had issued Linux Australia with a notice of claimed
infringement demanding the group cease providing access to two copyrighted
movies -- one called 'Grind' and the other 'Twisted' -- and ordering it to
'take appropriate action against the account holder'. However, the files
in question had nothing to do with those movies. The file entitled Twisted
is a download of the popular framework written in Python and Grind refers
to a download of Valgrind, a tool for developers to locate memory
management." Linux Australia looks set to have some fun with this one.

gush... Did they(MPAA) belive that they can control the millions oF Windows users that are the large majority of propellers of pirated movies ?... how ?... do they got hooks in Windows to spy on them ?... or what ?...
I never eared of MPAA complaining to Microsoft about those issues !!

Have you checked your ISP's acceptable use policy (AUP) lately? Read this example from Charter.net (section 3). They seem to say that more than one alleged infringement can get you branded as a "repeat copyright infringer".SO... when the MPAA boneheads send your ISP notice regarding your "Grind" and "Twisted", will your ISP terminate your account based on the mere allegation?

"So you claim to be an organization for protecting copyright, but I can't find any record of you actually protecting copyright. In fact, the only time you've gone to trial, you were found guilty of violating copyright yourself. How do you reconcile your position with your criminal record?"
Sending nasty letters is about at the top of the list of the rights exclusive to the owner of a copyright. Imagine how much trouble you'd get in if you started calling up theaters insisting that they not show movies because they're illegal copies.

Let's name application packages after movies!That would get the MPAA's underwear in a bunch. Geeze, can you imagine if every project at sourceforge was named after a movie?? If Windows was named after a movie it would have to be "Bridge Over River Kwai"! Bwaaahhaaa!!! Ooh, we and it's only Monday..
