It seems like MS has finally woken up and smelled all the missed "opportunities" in the internet. Open Standards in The Internet and The PC architechture has led to nothing less than a technological revolution. Proprietary network services [I have a faint recollection of something called Compuserve ...] and proprietary hardware has had a tough time making a big breakthrough, likely because people are not as dumb as some corporate bean counters planned on. The internet came and caught MS with its pants down, their idea of a PC was a standalone appliance that could compete with Atari and Commodore-64. Networking was not part of the original vision and every attempt since has been a patch-up job to cover a faulty long term plan.
The MS product is riddled with holes and one would think why they won't cover the basics like default security "ON" like no Administrator logins without at least severe warning boxes et cetera and also virus protection built-in. Instead MS is jumping on a weakness in the commonly used mail protocol to wedge control on the internet.
This is a very bad idea that shows MS' poor grasp of reality, as usual.
