Many 802.11g cards are (allegedly) supported by the prism54 driver, in the stock kernel since 2.4.28-pre1. You have to tolerate a binary firmware blob, though. The web list of supported hardware seems to be unavailable right now, but perhaps you can search for the right chipset(s) at linux-wlan-ng. (I use the Netgear WG511 cardbus adapter.)

Just a word to anyone thinking of buying a card supported by prism54: if the card you are looking at has the SMC 2802W chipset, make sure it is not the 'v2' revision; the 2802Wv2 is not compatible with the prism54 driver. I only found this out after buying the card. Fortunatly, I was able to use the Windows drivers with Ndiswrapper.
