Pointless ideology?
I think it's a good thing that many people are coming to realize that "free software fundamentalism" actually does have a good reason for existing. It wasn't revealed on golden tablets or anything... it comes from hard experience with proprietary vendors who care only about selling their products and not about supporting their users. (Fill in the name of the proprietary vendor that comes to your own mind...)
Freedom should be the primary and overriding concern when it comes to any decision about including or excluding code... 'market share' and 'competition with Microsoft' take a fourth-row back seat as far as I'm concerned. This episode only proves it very nicely.
