Pointless ideology?
As much as I'd prefer to use hardware with open-source drivers, it's sometimes hard to avoid binary-only drivers. When I investigated 802.11 b/g wireless cards about 2 months ago, I couldn't seem to find more than 1 or 2 802.11 b/g cards supported by Linux. (Perhaps I didn't look in enough places.)
By using ndiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sf.net), I could buy a $50 wireless card from Dell, and use ndiswrapper to load the provided Windows driver. This was a practical solution that greatly increased the number of choices I had for wireless networking while still using Linux.
