Statistics otherwise known as math 240,in our college, teaches that one needs to ask who, what, when, where, why and how when dealing with bold statements like these made regarding the supposed number of cell phones "sold". If these questions cannot be adequately addressed, then the entire story is nothing but an opinion. It looks to me like the main part missing here is the "how" along with a little bit of "why". A lot of it is also projection -- off the end of the linear (or quadratic) regression line/curve which makes it again, only an opinion. Just because a firm or corporation with a lot of prestiege says something, does not necessarily make it absoute fact.
