Background ========== Cyrus-SASL is an implementation of the Simple Authentication and Security Layer. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 dev-libs/cyrus-sasl < 2.1.26-r3 >= 2.1.26-r3 Description =========== In the GNU C Library (glibc) from version 2.17 onwards, the crypt() function call can return NULL when the salt violates specifications or the system is in FIPS-140 mode and a DES or MD5 hashed password is passed. When Cyrus-SASL's authentication mechanisms call crypt(), a NULL may be returned. Impact ====== A remote attacker could trigger this vulnerability to cause a Denial of Service condition. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All Cyrus-SASL users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.26-r3" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2013-4122 http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2013-4122 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-201309-01.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users' machines is of utmost importance to us.
