-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Critical: flash-plugin security update Advisory ID: RHSA-2005:835-00 Advisory URL: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2005-835.html Issue date: 2005-11-09 Updated on: 2005-11-09 Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras CVE Names: CVE-2005-2628 - --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Summary: Updated Macromedia Flash Player packages that fix a security issue are now available. This update has been rated as having critical security impact by the Red Hat Security Response Team. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS version 3 Extras - i386 Red Hat Desktop version 3 Extras - i386 Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES version 3 Extras - i386 Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS version 3 Extras - i386 Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS version 4 Extras - i386 Red Hat Desktop version 4 Extras - i386 Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES version 4 Extras - i386 Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS version 4 Extras - i386 3. Problem description: The flash-plugin package contains a Mozilla-compatible Macromedia Flash Player browser plug-in. A buffer overflow bug was discovered in the Macromedia Flash Player. It may be possible to execute arbitrary code on a victim's machine if the victim opens a malicious Macromedia Flash file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project assigned the name CVE-2005-2628 to this issue. Users of Macromedia Flash Player should upgrade to these updated packages, which contain version 7.0.61 and are not vulnerable to this issue. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run: rpm -Fvh [filenames] where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the desired RPMs. Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network, launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command: up2date This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate RPMs being upgraded on your system. 5.
