FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rococo Software Sees Bluetooth Taking Off in Asia APRIL 30, 2002, DUBLIN, IRELAND - Rococo Software recently returned from Japan with news that the Bluetooth market in Asia is shifting into gear. Rococo isn't the only company that thinks so. In a new end-user survey from Frost and Sullivan, analysts are also predicting growth potential in Asia for Bluetooth, the emerging short-range wireless technology. "The Japanese market is definitely in-tune with Rococo's offerings, being a major innovator in both consumer devices and wireless technology," said Rococo Software CEO, Sean O'Sullivan. "Rococo met with over ten Japanese companies, all of whom are seriously committed to implementing Bluetooth," he said. While in Japan, O'Sullivan and Ross O'Crowley, Director of Business Development, demonstrated an instant messager using Rococo's Impronto Simulator and Impronto Developer Kit, sending and receiving messages on a Palm over a Bluetooth connection. Rococo also demonstrated a Bluetooth version of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' on emulated mobile phones. "Not surprisingly, the mobile phone 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' demo was a big hit," said O'Crowley. "People want to see real-word examples of Bluetooth at work." One of the reasons for Japan's success in getting Bluetooth ready for market is the high penetration of mobile data services in the country. This makes Japan a hot market for early adopters of local services using Bluetooth wireless technology. According to O'Sullivan, Japanese companies aren't just looking at Bluetooth phones, laptops and PDAs, they're building Bluetooth into everything - microwaves, washing machines, cars and video cameras. Earlier this spring at the China Personal Area Networking Summit 2002, the message that China may adopt Bluetooth faster than 802.11 technology was apparent, said Rococo CTO Karl McCabe, conference speaker and attendee. Dataquest analysts have also picked China as a major implementer of Bluetooth, stating that manufacturers have gone from a cautious conservative mode to an expansive inclusive mode. This spring, Asia will play host to a multitude of wireless conferences that are sure to focus on Bluetooth, including the 7th China Bluetooth Forum, the First International Asia Pacific Wireless LAN Conference & Expo, Mobile Communications in Thailand and the Second China Bluetooth Developers Forum. -30- About Rococo Software Rococo Software (<www.rococosoft.com>) uses key industry standards to enable fast, easy Bluetooth application development in Java.
